Audi has revealed the successor to its successful RS 3 LMS race car. The second generation of the entry-level touring car will initially undergo a testing season before entering production and being ready for customers at the end of 2021.
The new car adopts Audi’s latest design language and looks sharp with lots of angles and creases. Those running lights take the aggressive front fascia to another level, and so it is with the rear. The new design also makes the car appear wider than it actually is and thus makes the rear wing appear a bit proportionate.
The car meets the regulatory safety standards with Audi Sport Protection Seat, side-impact protection for driver’s door, roof hatch for easier extrication, triangular nets (optional), steel roll cage, fire extinguishing system, and FIA-FT3 safety fuel tank. And yes, the pedal box is adjustable.
Other features include adjustable stabilizer bars (nine ways on the front axle and six ways on the rear), camber adjustment by shims, and internally ventilated brake discs and ventilated brake calipers on the front axle.
The 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TFSI EA888 engine develops an output of 250 kW (340 metric hp), which is about 5 metric hp more. The engine is paired with a new 6-speed sequential gearbox with pneumatic actuation, operated by shift paddles.
The second-generation Audi RS 3 LMS presents itself with new developments in all areas that serve two goals: To make the production-based entry-level model an even better race car and to optimize customer benefits in all areas. Despite this, the model remains affordable in purchase and maintenance, offers an even higher level of safety and provides plenty of driving pleasure with up to 250 kW (340 hp). – Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing
