BMW is offering entry-level plug-in hybrid models of the 3 Series and 5 Series, scheduled to go on sale from March 2021 depending on the market. The new range includes 320e Sedan, 320e Touring, 320e xDrive Touring, 520e Sedan and 520e Touring.
These entry-level PHEV models pack a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine combined with a 120 kW (163 metric hp) electric motor, for a combined output of 150 kW (204 metric hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The models pack lithium-ion batteries with a gross energy content of 12.0 kWh, offering a pure-electric (WLTP) range of up to 61 km (38 mi) in the 320e Sedan; up to 59 km (36.7 mi) in the 320e Touring; up to 57 km (35.5 mi) in the 320e xDrive Touring; up to 61 km (38 mi) in the 520e Sedan, and up to 57 km (35.5 mi) in the 520e Touring.
The battery pack can be re-charged with a maximum of 3.7 kW and takes about 3.6 hours to reach 100% SoC.
The 320e Sedan is the quickest among these entry-level models, with a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 7.6 seconds. The 320e and 520e Sedans boast a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph). The pure-electric top speed of all models is 140 km/h (87 mph).
