Bruce Wayne approves.
Lexus has teamed up with Japanese air race pilot Yoshihide Muroya for a special LC 500 Inspiration Series, limited to 100 units. The collaboration was mainly to create a rear wing inspired by Muroya’s aircraft.
Speaking of which, the engineers found that taking an airplane wing and flipping it upside down created vortices that improved maneuverability and efficiency at the wingtips. After some tests, the team created a prototype wing made of aluminum, and later in carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). The winglets are claimed to be fully functional and create a vertical vortex that helps smooth out the turbulence generated from airflow along the car’s flanks.
Unless told, the wing remains discreet and barely noticeable, unlike the shouty ones we normally see these days. Complementing the CFRP rear wing is a standard CFRP roof.
Besides that, the exterior of the car is fully drenched in dark Obsidian, complemented with 21-inch black forged-alloy wheels that almost fill out the arches.
The special edition also gets a rear Torsen limited slip differential and Yamaha performance dampers, which are optional on the normal LC models.
The cabin too is mostly drenched in black, with subtle Saddle Tan accents. Features include Alcantara-trimmed sport seats, standard Mark Levinson 13-speaker audio system, standard color Head-Up Display (HUD), and all the updates made on the 2021 model year LC 500, including the standard Lexus Safety System+ suite of safety and driver assistance systems.
The 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 motor pumps out the same 351 kW (477 metric hp) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. A 10-speed Direct-Shift gearbox drives the rear wheels. The variable Active Exhaust system comes standard too. Lexus claims a 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) time of 4.4 seconds.
