Nissan has launched the third generation Note series-hybrid vehicle in Japan, with prices starting at JPY 2,029,500 (US$ 19,422 or INR 14,37,073). The Note is Nissan’s one of the best-selling models in its home market.
Trim | Price (includes consumption tax) |
S | JPY 2,029,500 |
F | JPY 2,054,800 |
X | JPY 2,186,800 |
Sales will begin in the country from December 23, 2020. Initially, the new Note will be available only with FWD configuration. An AWD variant with two electric motors (one at each axle) is scheduled to debut in December.
As for the styling, the new Note adopts the latest Nissan design language with a bold V-motion grille flanked by new LED projector headlights. In fact, the front fascia reminds me of the Ariya EV. The lines on the side profile are subtle, adding to the clean looks of the vehicle. The dual-tone paint scheme with black roof and pillars in this example, adds a touch of a premium feel.
The rear fascia looks smart with a black applique connecting the taillights. Also, the double-bubble roof spoiler with a valley in the middle appears to have been inspired by the one on the Infiniti QX60 Monograph. The example here is riding on 16-inch aluminum wheels, with blade-like spokes inspired by a sword. Including the Vivid Blue with two-tone paint featured here, the new Note is available in 13 exterior colors.
The fresh cabin features a busy-looking dashboard with lots of angular lines and distractions. A digital driver display and a touchscreen are mounted side by side in a Z-shaped frame, creating a driver-focused layout. The multi-story centre console looks pretty cool. Other features would include Zero Gravity seats and a wireless smartphone charging pad on the centre console.
Safety and driver assistance systems would include Nissan ProPilot with Navi-link, which syncs with the navigation system on highways and detects speed limit signs to automatically adjust the set speed.
Powertrain
Moving on to the business end of the story, the Note’s e-Power powertrain combines a HR12DE 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and an EM57 electric motor — a setup similar to the new Kicks e-Power that went on sale in Thailand. However, the electric motor’s output figures are different here, which are 85 kW (116 metric hp) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft). The AWD model will have another motor at the rear with 50 KW (68 metric hp) and 100 Nm (74 lb-ft). Download the specifications sheet here (Japanese).
