Honda Cars India (HCIL) has already launched the latest generation City (5th gen in India; 7th gen globally) in the country, but for some reason, wants to sell the previous generation model (4th gen in India; 6th gen globally) alongside too. The company said that the 4th gen City will be available in two trims:
Trim | Price (ex-Delhi) |
SV (petrol, MT) | INR 929,900 |
V (petrol, MT) | INR 999,900 |
As we can see, it is available only with a single powertrain, which will be a 118 hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated unit paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
We decided to continue selling the 4th generation Honda City as it continues to be a popular model with its contemporary styling and is also BS6 compliant. With the continuation of 4th generation City in SV and V grade, we have ensured that the City brand is available to a wider set of customers in terms of trims and different price points in the mid-size sedan segment. – Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice President and Director, Marketing & Sales, HCIL
Interestingly, Honda is not the only one to do something like this in India. When Hyundai launched the Nios (3rd gen i10) in August 2019, it decided to sell the 2nd gen i10 alongside for a certain period. Hyundai is still selling both the Xcent and Aura.
