Kia has revealed the powertrain details of the Stinger facelift that we saw earlier this month. The existing 3.3L V6 biturbo and the 2.0L turbo petrol engines are joined by the new ‘Smartstream’ 2.5-litre T-GDi engine.
Speaking of which, the 2.5L turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the 2020 Kia K5 (Optima), is exclusive to Korea, U.S. and Mexican markets. Here, it develops 304 metric hp (224 kW) at 5,800 rpm and 422 Nm (311 lb-ft) of torque between 1,650-4,000 rpm.
Go with the flow
The 3.3-litre ‘Lambda’ V6 twin-turbo engine remains unchanged. The exhaust system, however, gets a new Electronic Variable Exhaust Valve system. A small butterfly valve in the exhaust opens and closes for a deeper exhaust note in Sport driving modes, or a quieter, more subdued note in Eco or Comfort mode. The revised exhaust flow path liberates an extra 3 hp from the engine for a total of 373 metric hp (274 kW) at 6,000 rpm, while the torque of 510 Nm (376 lb-ft) between 1,300-4,500 rpm remains the same.
Things remain unchanged with the 2.0-litre ‘Theta’ 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. It offers the same 255 metric hp (188 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque between 1,400-4,000 rpm. All three engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
No word on the 2.2L diesel motor; it’ll most likely continue to be offered in Europe.
