Mercedes-Benz India launched the much-awaited GLC today at Rs 50.7 lakhs, ex-showroom, Pune. Available in two variants; the GLC 220d is priced at Rs 50.7 lakhs and the GLC 300 (Petrol) is priced at Rs 50.9 lakhs. Prices are ex-showroom, Pune. The GLC bridges the gap between GLA and GLE in Mercedes India’s SUV portfolio. The GLC started its life as GLK, a left-hand drive SUV which was not on sale in India, and is now available with Mercedes’ new nomenclature for SUVs. The GLC will be brought to India via CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) route, and hence is called the Edition 1.
As the name suggests, the GLC is based on the C-Class and measures 4,656 mm in length, 1,644 mm in height, 2,096 mm in width and has a wheelbase of 2,874 mm. There are two powertrains on offer. The GLC 220d is powered by the familiar 2143 cc, 4-cylinder diesel motor producing 170 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, and the GLC 300 comes with a 1991 cc, 4-cylinder petrol motor producing 245 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to Mercedes’ 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and is equipped with 4MATIC system.
The key features include a 7-inch COMMAND infotainment system, 5 driving modes, park assist, adaptive LED headlamps, 550-1600 litres of boot space and many more. The GLC has scored 5 stars in Euro NCAP rating. There are 5 shades to choose from, and there’s an optional off-road package. The GLC will take on Audi Q3 and BMW X5.
