The Audi Q4 e-tron concept that we saw at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, has now got the ‘Sportback’ sibling. The Coupe variant will go into production in 2021 as the brand’s 7th all-electric model.
The dimensions of both Q4 e-tron concepts are almost identical with negligible differences. It measures 4.60 meters in length, 1.90 meters in width and 1.60 meters in height. It has a wheelbase of 2.77 meters. The front fascia looks almost identical too except for sporty bumper inserts and a different grille pattern.
As with any Sportback model, it’s all about that sloping roofline on the side profile and the rear fascia. The side profile retains the character lines and the muscular shoulders, while there are different 22-inch aerodynamically optimized wheels. At the rear, the taillight band is narrower than in the Q4 e-tron.
Also, notice an integrated spoiler at the lower edge of the rear windscreen. The Q4 Sportback e-tron boasts a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd, which is 0.01 lower than that of the Q4 e-tron.
The example here is finished in a new kinetic grey color that takes on a distinct greenish tinge depending on the angle of light. The lower sections of the body are painted in dark grey.
The dashboard is identical to the Q4 e-tron, obviously. At the centre of the dashboard is a 12.3-inch touchscreen; there’s also the same Audi virtual cockpit and a large head-up display with Augmented Reality.
What remains to be seen is the rear seat comfort, especially the rear headroom with that sloping roofline.
Being a quattro, the Q4 Sportback e-tron has two electric motors, one at each axle. The front motor pumps out 75 kW (102 hp) and 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) of torque, while the rear motor offers 150 kW (204 hp) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque – same figures as the Q4 e-tron. The floor mounted battery pack is of 82 kWh capacity and is claimed to offer a range of over 450 km (279 mi) as per WLTP standards. The battery can be charged with a maximum of 125 kW and is claimed to take just over 30 minutes to reach 80% of its total capacity.
By 2025, Audi wants to have more than 20 vehicles with all-electric drive and achieve about 40% of its sales with electrified models.
