As we saw in the recent spy shots, the changes on the exterior are subtle with a redesigned bumper which now has a provision for fog lamps, and the hexagonal air dam is now inverted. The upper grille is now narrower and the logo sits in between the upper and the lower grille. The bumper is now 35 mm longer measuring at 3,430mm, as compared to the outgoing model’s 3,395mm. The headlamps get a makeover as well with the indicators now in orange tint, à la old K10. The hood also gets cleaned up. Maruti calls the new design as “Aero Edge Design”. The passenger side ORVM is now standard. There are two new colors on offer namely, Mojito Green and Cerulean Blue, in addition to four existing shades.
Coming to the interiors, there’s new fabric upholstery, re-designed center console which has a new integrated stereo system with USB, AUX and Radio. Other features include co-driver utility pocket and a bottle holder for rear passengers. Top of the line trim gets a remote keyless entry.
No mechanical changes whatsoever, and as the name suggests, the car continues to be powered by the same 0.8-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine from the previous model producing 47 bhp @ 6,000 rpm and 69 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, Maruti claims there’s an improved engine architecture tuned for enhanced driving pleasure and a great fuel economy, which makes the Alto 800 facelift 9% more fuel efficient than the previous model, which helps return an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/l. Basically, the engine provides more torque at low rpms, allowing lesser gear changes. There are specially coated piston and ring set to reduce frictional losses and increases engine life. Maruti says the facelift gets a new brake booster to improve braking performance.
On the safety front, all trims get driver airbag as an option, central locking for the top of the line trim and rear door child lock for LXi and VXi trims.
