The Toyota Corolla hatchback has received a Special Edition for the model year 2021, which gets visual upgrades and additional safety features; the latter will be added to the rest of the 2021 Corolla hatchback line.
The Special Edition is finished in a ‘Supersonic Red’ paintwork, complemented by gloss-black 18-inch alloy wheels. It also gets a sporty body kit comprising a front splitter, side skirts, black rear spoiler, a rear bumper garnish, and of course, an obligatory Special Edition badge.
Safety
As for safety, all 2021 Corolla hatchbacks add rear seat mounted side airbags, bringing the car’s total airbag count to 10. In addition, the Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Blind Spot Monitor is standard on the XSE grade and optional for the SE grade with the SE Preferred package.
All MY 2021 models come standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of driver-assist technologies. These include Pre-Collision System with Daytime/Low-Light Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, plus Daytime Bicyclist Detection; Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (CVT only); Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist; Automatic High Beams, Lane Tracing Assist (CVT only), and Road Sign Assist.
Convenience
Also new for 2021 is the Enhanced Cargo Space option, available at no extra cost for all models excluding SE Nightshade. The feature lowers the cargo floor, adding 6 cu.ft. (170 litres) of total capacity (to 23 cu.ft./651 litres) behind the rear seats. This option replaces the spare tire with a tire repair kit.
The Special Edition is limited to 1,500 units.
