Along with the 5 Series, the 6 Series Gran Turismo has also received a facelift with styling, technology and powertrain updates. The styling updates are rather subtle and are barely distinguishable, but is in line with the latest BMW design language.
Exterior highlights include the Adaptive LED headlights with matrix technology or the optional BMW Laserlight, trapezoidal tailpipe finishers, and up to 20-inch wheels. Buyers can add the M Sport package which adds some aerodynamic elements and also the M Sport brakes with red painted calipers.
Features inside include the BMW Live Cockpit Professional fitted as standard, which comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and the iDrive Controller with a touchpad. Other features include the Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, optional multifunction seats with massage function, and the optional rear seat bench with an electrically adjustable backrest angle.
The optional safety and driver assistance systems include the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning, Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, Rear Collision Warning, and the Parking Assistant Plus. More information here.
The 6 Series GT gets the self-leveling air suspension as standard at the rear axle. Buyers can add the Adaptive two-axle air suspension and active roll stabilization as an option, where the ride height can be adjusted manually. The ground clearance can be increased by 20 mm at the touch of a button. As soon as the car’s speed exceeds 35 km/h (22 mph), the self-levelling system automatically returns to the standard setting. The ride height can also be dropped by 10 mm by pushing a button. This happens automatically at speeds above 120 km/h (75 mph) and when driving in Sport mode.
Variants
Variants at launch will be the 630i, 640i xDrive, 620d, 630d xDrive, and 640d xDrive; all of which get the 48-volt mild-hybrid system. More information here.
The powerful petrol variant is the 640i xDrive, which packs a 3.0-litre (2,998 cc) in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged unit, producing 245 kW (333 hp) between 5500–6250 rpm and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque between 1600–4800 rpm, paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and AWD system.
On the diesel side, there is, of course, the 640d xDrive with a 3.0-litre (2,993 cc) in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged unit, producing 250 kW (340 hp) at 4400 rpm and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque between 1750–2250 rpm. This engine is also paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and AWD system.
Depending on the market, the updated 6 Series Gran Turismo will be available from July 2020.
