Opel is working on the next-generation Mokka crossover that is expected to make its debut later in the year and at the showrooms early 2021. The crossover has undergone winter testing in the Arctic and suspension tuning at the brand’s test center in Rodgau, Germany.

The next-generation Mokka is based on the company’s Common Modular Platform (CMP), which allows both battery-electric powertrain as well as Internal Combustion Engines. Opel says that the new Mokka weighs up to 120 kg (265 lbs) less than the previous model – with almost the same wheelbase and tyre sizes.

The all-electric Mokka will have the batteries installed deep in the vehicle floor, which lowers the centre of gravity and at the same time increases torsional rigidity by a further 30% – excellent prerequisites for dynamic driving, Opel said.

We are all looking forward to seeing the new Mokka on the road in customers’ hands. Our new baby with its low weight and compact external dimensions reacts well to adjustments. Handling and comfort are super. The Mokka is a joy to drive. – Karsten Bohle, project coordinator for the second-generation Mokka

However, it is not yet clear if the new Mokka is based on the second-generation Buick Encore platform.
