Yo guys! Here’s a quick review of Tata Motors’ Tiago. After several delays and a name change, it finally hits the market. Based on the XO platform, the Tiago is an all-new offering from Tata Motors after Nano.
The exterior design of the Tiago is defined through three “EX” values – Exciting, Expressive & Extraordinary. Essentially, these 3 values talk about the design and stance of the vehicle, esp. the hexagonal grille, smoked headlamps, taillamps and so on. Similarly, the interior design is defined through 3 “IN” values. Inviting, Intouch and Intelligent. These 3 talks about things like dual-tone interior, height-adjustable seating with body-hugging bolsters, customizable air vents, premium fabrics and an infotainment system developed by Harman.
One thing that needs to be mentioned especially here is the design of the interior; the quality of materials used here has improved drastically. All the buttons look and feel nice. I think Maruti has a lot to learn from Tata when it comes to interiors.
The Tiago is a feature-packed vehicle and comes with a customized app called Juke-Car app which helps multiple users to play their playlists at the same time. Other key features are Harman developed infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted controls, an 8-speaker surround sound system.
Taking about the practicality, there are multiple storage spaces across the car, 22 to be precise. No problem with the knee room or headroom whatsoever even for 6 footers.
Powering the Tiago is Tata’s ‘Revotron’ and ‘Revotorq’ family of engines. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol motor produces 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque, and the 1,047 cc, 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine produces 70 PS and 140 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Among both, it’s the diesel that impresses you. There are two driving modes which Tata claims first in the segment, Power and Eco modes for improved efficiency.
The ride is a little bit on the stiffer side, however, it’s by no means uncomfortable. The suspension has been tuned pretty well for Indian conditions.
On the safety front, the top of the line XZ trim will have dual front airbags, ABS+EBD, Corner Stability Control and rear parking sensors as standard, where as you can have dual front airbags as an option on XE, XM and XT trims.
