Citroën has come up with a cute little car named ‘Ami’, that intends to make mobility accessible for everyone. Classified as a light quadricycle, the Ami in France can also be driven by 14-year-olds without requiring a driving license. In other European countries, the Ami is accessible to 16-year-olds.
Besides being able to purchase outright for €6,000 (including VAT), the Ami will be available on a 48-month long-term rental at €19.99 per month, and also on Free2Move car-sharing platform at €0.26/min.
The design of the Ami as we can see, is pretty simple. Interestingly, the front and rear fascias look almost identical and the only distinguishing factor appears to be the red-tinted taillights. There’s also a tiny integrated spoiler at the rear but still, it’ll most likely go unnoticed.
The Ami’s interior is pretty simple too and it can seat up to two passengers side by side. The feeling of space is reinforced with a standard panoramic glass roof. In a nod to Citroën’s history, the side windows open by manually tilting upwards like in the 2CV.
The Ami measures 2.41 metres in length, 1.39 metres (excluding mirrors) in width and 1.52 metres in height. Its total weight with the battery pack is 485 kg (1,069 lbs).
Its 8 hp (6 kW) electric motor draws juice from a 5.5 kWh battery pack. It is claimed to get charged in just 3 hours using a conventional 220-volt socket. As for the range, the Ami is claimed to go 75 km (47 mi).
The order books will open from 30th March in France, followed by Spain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, and Germany at a later date. The first deliveries are scheduled for June in France. Car-sharing services will start in the spring in Paris.
