The thing we all like about boutique carmakers is that they aren’t controlled by large corporations or business dynasties, which gives them the full freedom to do stuff the way they want. However, they might eventually get absorbed by a large corporation, which isn’t really a bad thing either due to the fact that they’ll get access to endless resources.

Either way, the rise of boutique carmakers is pretty cool. The new one is an L.A.-based startup called Czinger (pronounced “zinger”), founded by Kevin Czinger. Their first creation, the ’21C’ hypercar will make its public debut at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show. As the photos would suggest, Czinger has revealed a track-focused version along with the road car.

According to Czinger, the 21C is not just about the car, it’s also about doing things differently. It is manufactured using cutting-edge technology tools that are integrated into a patented production system. Many of its components are made using 3D printing process.

Obviously, the 21C is built with lightweight materials including carbon fibre, aluminum and titanium. The road version has a dry weight of 1,183 kg (2,608 lbs) while the track-focused version weighs 1,151 kg (2,537 lbs).

As we can see in the photos, the track version gets more aerodynamic elements such as the flics/canards at the front, rocker panels on the side, and a large wing at the rear. The road version sports a cleaner look. However, the cars are customizable, which means the elements from the track-focused car can be added to the road car.

The interior as we can see has an interesting, fighter jet cockpit-like layout with the passenger seat right behind the driver. There’s one large door for both the occupants. Naturally, the track-focused version sports a stripped-down look with rear seat delete and more exposed carbon fibre. The driver seat on the road version appears to be a bit more comfortable to sit on.

As for the technical bits, an in-house developed 2.88-litre, flat-plane crank V8 twin-turbo motor sits behind the occupants. There are also two electric motors, each powering a front wheel with torque vectoring. The total output is claimed to be 920 kW (1,250 metric hp/1,233 bhp), redlining at 11,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 7-speed AMT.

With a curb weight of 1,250 kg (2,755 lbs), the road version boasts a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.

The claimed performance figures are interesting too. A 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration happens in 1.9 seconds and the top speed is 432 km/h (268 mph). A 0 to 400 km/h (248 mph) to 0 is claimed to happen in 29 seconds. The track version can do a top speed of 380 km/h (236 mph). At 250 km/h (155 mph), the track version is claimed to generate downforce of 790 kg (1,742 lbs).

Czinger intends to build only 80 units of 21C hypercar.
