Honda has expanded the Civic Type R lineup with two newcomers: Sport Line and a track-focused Limited Edition. The photos here also showcase the Type R GT, finished in Racing Blue.
The Limited Edition as the name suggests, is limited to 100 units for Europe and 600 units for the American market. It’ll be finished in an exclusive new color called ‘Sunlight Yellow’. In addition to a dark chrome Civic badge on the rear, it also gets gloss black paint on the roof, wing mirrors and intake vent on the bonnet. It rides on a lightweight, 20-inch forged BBS alloy wheels shod with Michelin Cup 2 tyres.
Interiors feature red bucket seats and red Alcantara steering wheel, all of which are complemented by a teardrop style gear knob. Each model features a plaque marking the build number of the car.
Continuing its track-focused nature, the infotainment and air conditioning systems are deleted to save weight. Additional weight saving comes from reducing sound-deadening materials in the roof, rear hatch panel, front bumper and the dashboard. The Limited Edition weighs 47 kg less compared to a Type R in GT specification. However, the rear seats have been retained.
The Limited Edition doesn’t skip the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies either.
The Type R Limited Edition retains the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 320 hp at 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm of peak torque from 2,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. A 0-100 km/h acceleration is claimed to happen in 5.7 seconds.
The Type R Sport Line is apparently for people who seek a stealthier look from their performance hatchback. It features a low-deck rear spoiler, and an exclusive dark grey 19-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
The interior of the Type R Sport Line gets Black bucket seats with red stitching, complemented by a new teardrop style gear knob and Alcantara steering wheel. The red stitching is continued throughout the interior including on the door panels.
As with the standard Civic Type R, the Sport Line is equipped with a range of comfort and safety features. The new variant retains the 7-inch infotainment system, which incorporates DAB radio, and Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.
The new Civic Type R Sport Line will be available in Germany from spring, with prices starting from €41,490.
Honda is also introducing the LogR, a new performance datalogger, exclusive to Type R. It combines the Type R’s onboard computer and sensors with a smartphone app.
