The Vitara Brezza is a legendary automobile simply because it sold more than 500,000 units with just one engine on offer. It was not just any engine though, it was the 1.3L Multijet “national engine” which happily donated its legendary badge to the Brezza. It was a perfect combination of a national engine and a national carmaker.

Either way, the production of the 1.3L Multijet ended in January 2020 and the sub-4 metre compact crossover has now got a 1.5L K-series petrol engine along with some minor cosmetic updates.

Exterior features include LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, dual-tone Diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels, and LED taillamps.

The refreshed interiors feature a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Feature list also includes auto-retracting outside rear view mirrors, auto-dimming and antiglare inside rear view mirror (IRVM), gear shift indicator, and cruise control.

Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, driver & co-driver seat belt reminder, rear parking assist, and reverse parking sensors as standard across all variants.

The business end of the story is, of course, the 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine. It offers 105 hp (77 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm (102 lb-ft) of torque at 4,400 rpm. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic. The latter comes with mild-hybrid technology and is claimed to deliver a fuel efficiency of 18.76 km/l.

Functions of the mild-hybrid technology include idle start-stop, torque assist, and brake energy regeneration.
