The Tata Altroz is yet to go on sale in India but has already been subjected to crash tests as part of Global NCAP’s new round of #SaferCarsForIndia tests, with support from the FIA Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Global NCAP picked up the base model of the Altroz for the tests, which comes with two front airbags, 4-channel ABS, driver seat belt pretensioner, seat belt reminder, and ISOFIX anchorages. The car scored 5 stars in the Adult Occupant Protection tests and 3 stars for Child Occupant Protection. The Altroz thus becomes the second 5-star safety rated car from Tata after the Nexon.

Adult Occupant Protection
In the Adult Occupant Protection tests, the report commented that the protection offered to the driver and passenger’s head and neck was good. The driver and passenger’s chest showed adequate protection and so are the knees. The bodyshell was rated as stable and it was capable of withstanding further loadings. Footwell area was rated as stable. The car met technical requirements of Side impact Regulation UN95.

Child Occupant Protection
As for the Child Occupant Protection, the report said that the child seat for a 3-year old dummy was installed FWF with ISOFIX and top tether and was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact, however, the backrest of the rear seat unlatched during crash resulting in point reduction. The 3-year old dummy’s head contacted the interior of the car also resulting in the loss of points. The 18-month old CRS was installed with ISOFIX and the protection offered to the 1.5-years old dummy was rated as good. The latest result in our #SaferCarsforIndia crash tests shows a strong signal that Tata is moving its fleet to 5-star levels of safety performance. We would like to encourage all other car manufacturers in India to follow Tata’s example and bring affordable 5-star cars to Indian consumers. – David Ward, CEO and President, Global NCAP
