The third generation Isuzu D-Max pickup truck is now on sale in the Thailand market, with prices starting at ฿852,000 (Rs 19.95 lakh or $28,230) for the V-Cross 4×4 variant. Naturally, the update also includes a regular commercial cab called ‘Spark’ and a 2-door pickup as well.
It’s the Crew Cab or V-Cross 4×4 (featured photo) which gets a more aggressive styling with blacked-out elements. The front fascia is dominated by two thick chrome slats housed within a large black grille. Flanked on either side of the grille are bi-LED projector headlamps with integrated DRLs. The bumper houses two vertically stacked fog lamps. The rear-end has clear lens LED taillights and a restyled bumper.
The new D-Max rides on a new platform and the usage of 980 MPa high-tensile steel and 390 MPa high-tensile steel has gone up resulting in a stronger body. Isuzu claims that the latter has contributed to a 20% increase in body rigidity in addition to reinforcing the rooftop.
The V-Cross measures 5,265 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width and 1,790 mm in height (including roof rails). The wheelbase of 3,125 mm is generous too. The RWD model has a curb weight of 1,890 kg (4,167 lbs).
The interiors have been freshened up too and looks a bit premium compared with the outgoing model. Features include a 4.2-inch MID, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple Carplay & Android Auto compatibility, dual-zone auto AC, and rear AC vents.
Safety and assistance features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, ESC, Traction Control, parking sensors, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Powering the new D-Max V-Cross is a new 4JJ3 3.0-litre (2,999 cc) 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, producing 140 kW (190 hp) at 3,600 rpm and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque between 1,600-2,600 rpm. For markets outside Thailand, there’s a 1.9-litre turbocharged diesel engine as well.
The 3.0L engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. The 4×4 variants get a (Terrain Command System) knob to switch between 2H, 4H and 4L modes. It also gets an electronic Diff-Lock system. Download the 2020 D-Max V-Cross brochure here (Thai).
