That’s right. The Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Coupé is an all-electric virtual sports car developed for the game Gran Turismo Sport for Sony PlayStation 4. It’ll be available for players to download by the end of November.
Unlike the Audi e-tron Vision GT which became an actual working concept, and the McLaren’s Ultimate Vision GT which could be a reality in 2030, there’s no word on the future plans of the Jaguar Vision GT. Nonetheless, the “virtual” all-electric hypercar looks stunning, taking design inspiration from Jaguar’s history such as the C-type and D-type race cars.
This project has been completely led by our young designers and represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to create a vehicle steeped in our incredible heritage but pushing the boundaries of future design. The team has done an incredible job in creating something which is clearly identifiable as a Jaguar, inspired – but not constrained – by our iconic past. – Julian Thomson, Design Director, Jaguar
The interiors as you might expect, is loaded with technologies including Augmented Reality (AR) and holograms. The car features an on-board Artificial Intelligence (AI) system affectionately named “KITT-E” – a companion that would operate systems and interface between the driver and machine.
In case you’re wondering how does one can get inside the car, it has a canopy door which slides forward and upwards. Watch the video above to discover some other cool features including a three-piece active rear wing.
The car is powered by three compact motors – one driving the front wheels, the other two driving a rear wheel each – which together produce a combined 750 kW (1,020 hp) and 1,200 Nm of torque. Players will be propelled from 0 – 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds and on to a maximum speed of more than 200 mph (322 km/h), Jaguar said. Watch the making video below.
With its all-electric motor design drawing on the technology from both the Jaguar I-Type 4 and eTrophy race cars, we have accurately modeled the performance of the Jaguar Vision GT Coupé in the virtual world, creating a car that will be exhilarating to drive and a real threat to the competition. – James Barclay, Team Director, Panasonic Jaguar Racing
