Ford has teamed up with Australia’s Herrod Performance for this country exclusive Mustang R-SPEC that’ll arrive in local showrooms in early 2020, carrying a price tag of AUD 99,980 (or USD 67,618 at the time of publishing this story).

Based on the Mustang GT Fastback, the R-SPEC is limited to 500 units. This particular example is finished in Grabber Lime paint, while the Twister Orange, Oxford White, and Velocity Blue finishes are available too. Visual and aerodynamic enhancements include black Pony badge, black curtains for the air intakes on the bumper, black over-the-top stripes, black hood vents, black mirror caps, R-SPEC projection puddle lamps, black 5.0 badge, black hockey stripes on the side, black rear spoiler, and black R-SPEC badge.

Rounding off the exterior looks are 19-inch black wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, and Herrod Performance active exhaust system with twin tailpipes on either side. The V8 soundtrack varies depending on the Quiet, Normal, Sport and Race Track modes selectable via the steering wheel-mounted button.

Interiors get Ford Performance scuff plates, a limited edition badging, and Ford Performance short-throw shifter. New, firmer Ford Performance springs lower the R-SPEC by 20 mm compared to the regular Mustang GT. The car also gets MagneRide suspension as standard with a unique software calibration for the Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM), which is claimed to adjust the damping rate 100 times per second.

The handling package adds Ford Performance adjustable stabilizer bars: 37 mm (+5 mm) front and 25.2 mm (+3 mm) rear.

As for performance upgrades, the R-SPEC gets a roots-type supercharger with 2.65-litre capacity and 12 PSI of boost. No official performance figures have been released. However, the supercharger kit appears to be from the Roush Performance (TVS R2650 Supercharger). Meaning, the 5.0 V8’s figures could be more than 700 hp and 820 Nm of torque (up from the standard 339 kW [461 hp] and 556 Nm). The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

All MY 2020 Mustangs include an 8.0-inch color touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility, voice-activated sat-nav and climate control functions, and 9-speaker B&O Play audio system. Standard driver assistance and safety tech on the Mustang R-SPEC includes Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and self-leveling headlights.
