For some reason, the designers are paying too much attention to the kidney grille, making it larger every day. Whether you like it or not, more models in the future will have such a grille and one of that is this Concept 4.

Besides its design, there isn’t much to talk about the vehicle, which is why the grille is grabbing all the attention. Speaking of which, the grating or pattern within the kidneys and air intakes are made of number 4s joined together. The LED elements of the slim headlamps have no glass cover, to give them a 3D sculpture-like looks.

The kidney grille has always been a signature feature of BMW cars. The BMW Concept 4 presents a confident and classy take on this iconic feature. At the same time, the BMW Concept 4 offers a look ahead to the expressive face of the 4 Series range. – Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design

Apparently, the inspiration for such a tall grille came from the classics such as the 328 and the 3.0 CSi.

Rest of the car seems to borrow its styling from the latest BMW Coupe, including the shape of the taillights. The LED units at the rear are made of a single fibre optic element. The Concept 4 rides on 21-inch wheels, which according to BMW, are a heavily “dished” take on the sporty five-spoke design.

As mentioned, not much information or technical bits are available to share at the moment. Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW, said that the Concept 4 will also be the basis for the future BMW i4 (electric), which will be available in 2021.

By 2023, the company plans to have 25 electrified models, half of which will be fully electric. BMW also said that by 2022, the company will be launching a fleet of fuel cell vehicles.
