Hinckley-based boutique carmaker Ultima Sports have revealed their new flagship supercar called RS, the fastest one in the brand’s 35 year history.
As for the design, the RS might remind you of something from Sweden, however, Ultima says that the car’s lines are inspired by Group C Le Mans. The focus is mainly on increasing downforce and aerodynamic performance with elements such as wheel arch louvers, chassis-mounted front splitter, vortex generators, front dive planes (canards), NACA ducts, side scoops and a large diffuser at the rear. The nose ducts and roof scoop channel cold air to the powertrain.
The full-width carbon fibre wing gets 9 different angle of attack adjustment positions starting at -2 degree up to a maximum angle of +14 degree. The wheels are 19-inch lightweight forged alloys, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The 322 mm curved vane vented discs with 4-pot calipers can be upgraded to 362 mm ones with 6-pot calipers. The front to rear brake bias can be adjusted.
The interiors have a track-focused vibe going on with a stripped-out, minimalistic approach. However, there are some features such as leather/Alcantara wrapped dashboard, Ultima RS-branded leather/Alcantara seats, leather-trimmed roll cage option with contrasting stitching, AC, AiM MXS digital dash and data logging option, Alpine in-car entertainment system with satellite navigation and Bluetooth option, satin black anodized switchgear with red illumination, and grey anodized gear knob.
The front and rear light clusters get in-built fan for temperature control, and sequential turn signals and start up and shut down sequencing feature too. The laminated glass is claimed to be US and European certified, while buyers can go for heated windscreen option.
More options include front ride height lift kit with dashboard-mounted controls, rearview camera and parking sensors, and Ultima RS branded luggage bag set.
The Ultima RS’ custom-made coil spring dampers are adjustable for bump, rebound and ride height. The ground clearance of 120 mm can be raised up to 160 mm with the aforementioned optional front lift kit.
Powering the Ultima RS is a GM-sourced 6.2L V8 engine with output options ranging from 480 bhp in LT1, 650 bhp in LT4 and 800 bhp in the supercharged LT5. The latter can be further tuned to 1200 bhp. The engine is paired to a Porsche-sourced 6-speed manual transmission. Depending on the options fitted, the car weighs 930 kg.
The Ultima RS is a real driver’s car and therefore is only available with a six-speed manual shift gearbox and a clutch pedal.
Most manufacturers seem intent on installing as many new technological driving aids into their cars as they can, steadily numbing the very feel that a sports car driver craves. To us, that’s almost sacrilege because the less input the driver has, the less they can enjoy the pure thrill of driving. There is a craving amongst true driving enthusiasts for the adrenaline pumping analogue sports cars that we produce and there has never been a better time to launch this new Ultima RS flagship model – Richard Marlow, Director
