Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has launched the mild-hybrid variants of the new Baleno, priced at Rs 7.25 lakh for the Delta and Rs 7.86 lakh for the Zeta variant. Prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
The mild-hybrid technology is offered with the BS VI compliant 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that is claimed to reduce nearly 25% in Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emissions. As always, the mild-hybrid system features:
- Torque Assist: The energy stored in the lithium-ion battery assists during acceleration.
- Idle Start/Stop: The engine automatically shuts off when idle and resumes duty when the optimal conditions are met, helping with fuel efficiency.
- Brake Energy Regeneration: When the vehicle decelerates, the Smart Hybrid technology charges the batteries which in turn assist the engine’s idle start/stop and torque assist functionalities.
The Baleno Smart Hybrid is claimed to offer a fuel efficiency figure of 23.87 km/l. Existing 1.2L petrol variants continue to be offered with BS VI compliance.
