So those who have seen the new Baleno’s engine bay, they might have noticed there’s still a lot of space both in petrol and diesel variants. There’s more in petrol variant. Have a look in our review here. Many expected Maruti might launch a “GT” version of the Baleno with a bigger engine. But what Maruti has done instead is, they’ve decided to go with a smaller 1-litre turbocharged engine. Just like the rest of the world which is downsizing their massive engines and adding more turbos or superchargers to get the best out of a smaller engine. This car was spotted testing somewhere in Cochin in black color.
The engine is a 998CC 3 Cylinder Turbocharged petrol unit producing 110bhp @ 5500rpm and 170nm of torque @ 2000-3500 rpm. And the kerb weight of this car is around 950 kg and we expect this car to be a fun to drive. No information on the diesel variant and the transmission options yet. The spotter says the car under test was an export model and had additional safety features such as side airbags, all four disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring system and radar-based brake support. And as you would expect this car will take on the likes of VW Polo GT. No information on the launch date.
