Just like most of you, I learned about this new player in the electric mobility industry just today. Atlis Motor Vehicles was born in founder Mark Hanchett’s garage, sometime in 2016. He started off by converting his diesel-guzzling pickup truck into an electric one.
Which is probably why the XT Pickup Truck we see in the pictures here, has that traditional gas-guzzling pickup looks, especially when you see the side and the rear profile. The Rivian R1T, which also is a new player, looks a bit more modern. However, the XT has some modern touches too, such as the LED headlights and the cameras replacing the conventional wing mirrors. Notice the headlights and taillights having four pods.
The frunk has power outlets to charge your mobile devices or to power the tools, while an air compressor can be added as an option in the rear bed.
The interior has that utilitarian layout, typical of a pickup truck. Notice the rotary control knobs with integrated display, and the instrument cluster with displays on either side for the cameras outside. The touchscreen infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The seats come standard with cloth upholstery while there are leather packages to choose from.
Adaptive Cruise Control is standard, while an advanced adaptive cruise, parking and lane keeping assistance are optional.
The platform as we can see here, neatly houses a battery pack. Buyers can choose from 300 mi (483 km), 400 mi (644 km), or 500 mi (805 km) range, and all are based on an unloaded truck, with no cargo or trailer weights. Atlis claims a charging time of about 15 minutes with its own charging station. The company is also offering a one-time annual subscription to gain unlimited access to charging stations.
As for electric motors, there is one for each wheel, making it a 4WD. The output figures are yet to be revealed. However, Atlis claims a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration time of 5 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h).
Apparently, the truck has a payload capacity of 1,000 – 5,000 lbs (454 – 2,268 kg), and gooseneck trailering capacity between 10,000 – 35,000 lbs (4,536 – 15,876 kg).
As for suspension, the XT comes standard with air springs with dynamic load damping and 12-inches of ground clearance, while an off-road long travel suspension with 15-inches of ground clearance is optional.
Atlis is accepting reservations and the deliveries are expected to commence in 2020.
