Taiwanese tyre brand Maxxis has rolled out its first two-wheeler tyres consignment from the recently set-up Sanand facility to Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI). The company has been supplying OEM tyres to HMSI through its Vietnam facility since 2015.
The first locally made tyre model is the 90/100-10 M6000 for Honda Activa 5G, Activa i, and Dio scooters. The Sanand facility is dedicated to manufacture two-wheeler tyres and tubes, and has a capacity to produce around 20,000 tyres and 40,000 tubes per day.
Production from the first phase of the India facility began in August 2017, and the company aims to supply 1 million tyres to its OEM partners by end of this year. Maxxis India is targeting to capture a market share of at least 15% of India’s two-wheeler tyre market by 2023.
Besides catering to the domestic tyre market, the products from the Sanand facility will be exported to South Asia, and will further expand to Africa and Middle East countries in the coming years. The company also has plans to set up 5 more plants in India which will also cater to the 4-wheeler tyre market.
