Volkswagen is working on a new subcompact crossover called T-Cross, which is scheduled to premiere in autumn this year. The small SUV has already been spotted testing in its home country, and looks nearly production ready.

According to Volkswagen, the T-Cross will be “more than one thing”, where “more” implies that the SUV offers more without costing more. The MQB platform which underpins the new Polo and the T-Roc, will also be the base for the T-Cross. Besides the European market, the company expects to sell the 4,107-mm-long SUV in China and South America as well.
The company said that the modular transverse matrix (MQB) creates a surprising amount of room. For example, the back seat can be adjusted for more knee room or more room for luggage. Standard safety kit on board includes the Front Assist (ambient traffic monitoring system) and Lane Assist (lane departure warning system).
Watch the above video where Jürgen Stackmann, Head of Sales & Marketing, and Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design of the Volkswagen brand, explain the new T-Cross.
As for the Indian market, Skoda is now leading the VW Group’s model campaign, and both companies just confirmed a compact SUV by 2020 under ‘India 2.0’ project. More on that here.
While the Volkswagen T-Cross might come to India as a Creta rival, Skoda’s version will most likely take the design cues from the Vision X.
