Toyota has rolled out the Corolla Sport in Japan, with prices starting at ¥2,138,400 (including consumption tax). The Corolla Sport is a JDM-spec version of the 12th generation Corolla hatchback that was revealed in March, this year.
Only for the Japanese market, the car uses the letter ‘C’ as its motif. In Japan, the car gets DCM (Data Communication Module) as standard which made its debut in the new Crown. The T-Connect Service is offered in all models as well.
Interiors get sporty bucket seats with enhanced side bolsters, 7-inch TFT multi-information display, 8-inch touchscreen, and silver and black accents along with the Red that draws all of the attention.
The Corolla Sport gets linear-solenoid-type Adaptive Variable Suspension as an option. Linear-solenoid-type AVS instantly adjusts the damping force for each wheel according to road surface and driving conditions.
The standard MacPherson Strut at front and double wishbone suspension at the rear underwent 600 tests using different combinations of oils and components to achieve a comfortable drive and responsive steering, the company said.
Powertrain
Powering the Corolla Sport is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, delivering 116 hp between 5,200-5,600 rpm and 185 Nm of torque between 1,500-4,000 rpm, paired to a Super CVT-i with 10-speed simulated shifts. The GZ and GX trims are offered in four-wheel drive as well.
The hybrid is a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder unit, delivering 98 hp at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. The electric motor develops 72 hp and 163 Nm. The total system output, however, is 122 hp or 90 kW. The transmission according to Toyota is THS II (TOYOTA Hybrid System II) with reduction gear.
Safety
The Corolla Sport packs the same safety kit as the new Crown. These include standard Toyota Safety Sense, intelligence clearance sonar and the rear cross traffic auto brake.
