MG Motor, which is currently building its brand in India, appears to be readying the Baojun 530 SUV for the Indian market.
For those who’re wondering, Baojun is a brand in China owned by SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. MG Motor which comes under the SAIC umbrella, is expected to sell the re-engineered or a badge-engineered version of 530 in India.
The 5-seater SUV measures 4,655 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,750 mm.
Equipment list includes LED headlamps, 9-speaker Infinity audio system by Harman, 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment, airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Traction Control, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Hill Hold, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and more.
The company says that the bodywork is made of 57 percent high-strength steel, and the SUV has scored 5 stars in C-NCAP.
In China, the SUV is offered with 1.5-litre (1,451 cc) 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which delivers 110 kW (150 hp) and 230 Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed DCT.
There is also a 1.8-litre (1,798 cc) naturally aspirated petrol engine on offer, delivering 101 kW (137 hp) and 186 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The Baojun 530 is a front-wheel drive SUV.
A heavily camouflaged test mule was spotted by Autocar reader.
MG Motor took over GM’s Halol plant in Gujarat last year, and Rajiv Chaba is leading the brand as the President and MD.
