Bentley did Bentayga, Rolls-Royce is working on Cullinan and so is Aston Martin on DBX. All these SUVs promise to offer the ultimate in luxury high riding. Although the Mercedes-Benz has the GLS in AMG 63 guise, its not the “ultimate” for many.
Which is why the Stuttgart-based carmaker has revealed the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury. It has a three-box design, and Mercedes doesn’t call this an SUV directly, but instead, a crossover that combines SUV and notchback saloon.
As for the design, the crossover has a chrome-plated grille with pinstriped suit-like vertical bars which we saw in the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6. Other Maybach design elements include low profile headlamps and chrome accents. At the rear end, the three-part lamps correspond with the front headlamps. The overall appearance is rounded off by 24‑inch turbine wheels.
The cabin has a feeling of luxurious lightness and spaciousness, thanks to the usage of materials. The crystal white Nappa leather upholstered seats feature fine perforations in rose gold. The familiar two 12.3‑inch displays are present here too.
The wide centre console extends all the way to the rear, and is equipped with an integral, heated tray with teapot and cups. Speaking of which, the tea service is integrated into a sculpted wooden tray made of ebony, known as “Magic Wood” in traditional Chinese furniture design. At the press of a button, the service can be electrically retracted into the console under a sliding cover finished in high-gloss black.
Furthermore, the vehicle plays music to match the current mood, knows the appointment calendar and plans the routes accordingly. The familiar Energizing comfort control has been carried over from the S‑Class.
Powertrain
The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is conceived as an electric car. Its four electric motors produce a total output of 550 kW (750 hp). The flat underfloor battery has a usable capacity of around 80 kWh, producing an NEDC range of over 500 km (EPA – over 200 miles or 322 km). The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Thanks to DC charging based on the CCS standard, the system allows a charging capacity of up to 350 kW. In just 5 minutes, enough power can be charged to achieve an additional range of around 100 km, the company said.
