Phoenix Kessaku, the Japanese-inspired super luxury apartments in Bengaluru, in association with Volvo Cars hosted a Sunday Brunch which included an experience with the Volvo line up.

In Japanese, ‘Kessaku’ means masterpiece, a work of art that is exemplified by the subtle juxtaposition of simplicity with complexity, borrowed from the idea of ‘shibui’- an aesthetic of unobtrusive beauty that appears plain but incorporates intricate detailing within to create a timeless aesthetic balance. Sounds a bit complicated, i know, but you really have to see it in-person to understand, kinda difficult to describe in words.

Phoenix Kessaku has five towers Sora, Niwa, Mizu, Faia and Zefa, which according to the company, is inspired by the five natural elements (sky, flora, water, fire, earth), and offer home-owners the privilege of ‘bungalow living’ within the convenience of a gated-community.

Loved the live performance of Krishnaa and her friend. Both performed “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum, one more time for us (for me ;)).

The Volvo Experience

While there was the big XC90 and the very capable V90 Cross Country, the one i was really interested to try out was the second generation XC60, for obvious reasons. And the gallery here mostly comprises of the XC60.

Besides the obvious fit & finish, solid build, there are few things that i absolutely love about the XC60. The seats are supremely comfortable, and apparently, they are made consulting the orthopaedic surgeons. They feature massage function too, which means if you have some kind of back pain, all you might need is a spin in the XC60.

Secondly, the engine. The 235 PS 2.0-litre (1,969 cc) 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel boasts “PowerPulse technology”, which uses compressed air to eliminate the turbo lag. It has that immediacy to the throttle inputs, very similar to an electric vehicle, and the lag is barely noticeable. The 480 Nm of torque gets served up almost instantly. The 8-speed AT responds quickly too.

The driver can choose from 5 driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Dynamic, Off-Road and Individual, and the air suspension takes care of filtering the uneven surfaces.

And yes, the 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System and the 360-degree camera showing up on the portrait-style 9-inch touchscreen is a joy to use.
