Peugeot has revealed the second-generation 508 ahead of its premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Peugeot hopes that the new D-segment saloon will further support the brand’s upmarket strategy.

As for the design, the new 508 gets inspired by the Instinct Concept unveiled at the last year’s Geneva Show. The headlamps are full LEDs, while the taillamps are 3D LEDs with adaptive intensity. These lights will differ in appearance depending on the side or full rear view.

The new 508 is built on PSA’s EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) platform, which shaves off 70 kg compared to the previous generation. There is also a new body-welding technique strengthened with 24 m of structural adhesive, providing greater rigidity and a guarantee of better durability.

Peugeot has limited the length of the car to 4.75 m, vs 4.83 m of the outgoing model, for improved maneuverability. Height measures 1.40 m, which is 6 cm less than the previous model. However, the width has been increased by 2 cm, which now measures 1.84 m. The wheelbase — at 2.79 m — has been shortened by 2.4 cm.

The interior gets the latest version of the Peugeot i-Cockpit. The i-Cockpit includes a compact steering wheel, a 10-inch wide HD capacitive touchscreen in 8:3 format, and a head-up display with a high-resolution 12.3-inch digital screen. Other features include Mirror Screen compatible with Android Auto, Apple Carplay and MirrorLink, wireless charging, storage spaces of up to 32 litres, panoramic sunroof, Focal premium audio system, optional wraparound front seats with eight-pocket pneumatic massage system and five different massage programmes.

Interior trim options include full-grain or Nappa leather, satin chrome, black lacquer, Alcantara, authentic wood (Grey Oak on the GT Line or GT, or Zebrano available on the GT only).

Safety and driving aids include Night Vision system — a first for the segment, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Positioning Assist, Active Safety Brake and Distance Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Assist, Speed Limit Recognition and Recommendation, Extended Traffic Sign Recognition, and Active Blind Spot Monitoring system.
