Volvo Cars has revealed the second generation V60 premium family estate. Reflecting the company’s plans to electrify all new cars from 2019, the new V60 comes with two plug-in hybrid powertrain options.

The new V60 is built on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform that also underpins the new XC60 and 90 Series cars.

Powertrains
The new V60 can be had with a T6 Twin Engine AWD petrol plug-in hybrid that generates a combined 340 hp or a T8 Twin Engine AWD petrol plug-in hybrid that delivers 390 hp. The regular petrol choice offers T5 or T6 powertrains. Those who prefer diesel can select D3 or D4 engines.

Depending on the variant, transmission is a 6-Speed manual or an 8-Speed automatic.

The plug-in hybrid models get 45 km all-electric range, drawing power from a 10.4 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack.

Safety
Safety kit includes City Safety with Autobrake technology, which is claimed to be the only system in the market to recognize pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. City Safety also engages auto braking to mitigate oncoming collisions.

The Pilot Assist system – which supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h – has been upgraded with improved cornering performance, said Volvo. The V60 also includes Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering assistance systems. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake further improves safety for people inside and outside the car.

Other features include Sensus infotainment system which is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G.

In a first for the segment, customers can access the new V60 via Volvo Cars’ new premium subscription service Care by Volvo, which offers car access via a monthly flat-fee subscription rather than ownership. Care by Volvo is currently available in Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA.
