MSIL has officially revealed the India-spec new Swift that is expected to go on sale at the Auto Expo 2018 in February. Bookings are open for a deposit of Rs 11,000.
Globally unveiled back in December 2016 in Japan, the new Swift is built on the 5th generation ‘HEARTECT’ platform which is claimed to make the car stronger and lighter, while also improving the power-to-weight ratio. The company promises better NVH levels as well.
The new car is 40 mm wider and has a 20 mm longer wheelbase, which translates into better interior space. The headroom has been increased by around 24 mm and the boot space by 58 litres.
Powertrains
As for the powertrains, the new Swift will carry forward the current set of engines. The 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K-Series petrol, with an output of 61 kW (83 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The diesel is a 1.25-litre (1,248 cc) 4-cylinder turbo, producing 55.2 kW (75 hp) at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Transmission is a 5-speed manual, and the AMT is limited to the VXi, ZXi and VDi, ZDi trims. The top-spec ‘+’ trims don’t appear to get an automatic gearbox.
Features
Features include LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, LED rear combo lamps, Smartkey, Push Start/Stop, SmartPlay Infotainment System with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink, Automatic Climate Control, and more.
Safety kit includes dual front airbags (standard), ABS with EBD and Brake Assist (standard), Isofix mounts (standard), reverse parking sensors, reversing camera, day/night IRVM, front fog lamps, and rear defogger.
Colors
There are 6 colors to choose from – Solid Fire Red, Pearl Arctic White, Metallic Silky Silver, Magma Grey, Midnight Blue, and Prime Lucent Orange.
Dimensions
The car measures 3,840 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,530 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,450 mm and ground clearance is at 163 mm. Boot space measures 268 litres.
The petrol model’s kerb weight is around 855-880 kg while the diesel weighs 955-985 kg.
