Ford had handpicked who’s going to buy their second generation GT, and had to double the initial plan of 500 units to 1000 units due to huge demand. Ford had received over 7,000 applications. The buyers included not only the car collectors but also influencers and celebrities from different walks of life.
One of them was John Cena, who sold the car in less than a month. Ford is furious, obviously, and is taking him to the court as the buyers are made to sign an agreement not to sell the vehicle within the first 24 months of delivery.
The lawsuit obtained by GMG Editorial states “Mr. Cena has unfairly made a large profit from the unauthorized resale flip of the vehicle, and Ford has suffered additional damages and losses, including, but not limited to, loss of brand value, ambassador activity, and customer goodwill due to the improper sale.”

The lawsuit notes that Cena sold the car along with other assets “to liquidate for cash to take care of expenses.”
Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges that after Cena was informed of violating the contract, he responded, “I completely understand and as stated am willing to work with Ford to make it right. My sincerest apologies.”
“Ford also has lost almost two years of ambassadorship and brand value that Mr Cena would have offered by owning the vehicle for the contractually required time”, added the lawsuit.
Other car makers like Porsche and Aston Martin too are standing against the flippers. They have stated that they’re going to cancel the order if they found out who is flipping, while also blocking them from future limited editions. However, flippers are gonna flip anyway. Recently, someone was found to be flipping their Project One build slot.
