A quick look video of the Volvo’s first ever small SUV – the XC40. Volvo might be late to the party, but they seem to have taken the time to get the formula right. The Swedish carmaker claims to have done a lot of research for this product, and is mainly designed for city living.
Firstly, it looks great no matter which angle you look at it. The Thor’s Hammer DRLs and the tail lamps seen in the larger siblings are present here too. What’s unique to this car is probably the dual-tone paint scheme and the floating roof effect, which is popular in this segment.
And similar to its siblings, the interiors are minimal with a portrait style touchscreen, there is a digital instrument cluster, and generous well-organised storage spaces for city use. And with the Volvo On Call app, you can send your destination to the car’s navigation system, so that all you have to do is, hop in and drive!
Talking about the powertrains, there is not much details available at the moment, but Volvo said, there’ll be a D4 diesel and T5 petrol at the beginning, which will be the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol and diesel units. Later, there’ll be a plug-in hybrid and a pure electric version as well. And also, a 3-cylinder engine.
As for the safety features, there is Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road protection & mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and the 360° Camera. Indians might not get the radar-based safety features.
The XC40 has already been listed in the Volvo India website, and Volvo might display it at the 2018 Auto Expo. If you remember, the company had announced local production in Bengaluru, few months ago, so, if locally produced, the XC40 might get a very aggressive price tag.
Probably in the second half of 2018, the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3, BMW X1, and maybe even the Jaguar E-Pace will have another contender.
