Hyundai’s 7-seater SUV Santa Fe is no longer listed in the official Indian website hinting its discontinuation owing to lack of demand.
The crossover rivalled the established players such as Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor. While Toyota sold thousands of units every month, Hyundai was selling very few units of Santa Fe, less than 100 units in the last six months. Also, the softroader appeal which Santa Fe had didn’t help either. The customer had no strong reason as to why he should choose Santa Fe over the Tucson.
The last recorded price of Santa Fe was close Rs 28 lakh ex-Delhi, which is expensive than Fortuner, Endeavour and even the Pajero Sport.
Named after a city in the United States, the Santa Fe was offered with a 194 hp 2.2-litre turbo diesel, paired to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed auto. The SUV was available with front-wheel drive or AWD configuration.
According to media reports, the recent hike in the GST cess was the last nail in the coffin. The company also said that the cess hike is shaking the confidence of auto makers.
