These “Compact SUVs” have become a symbol of success in life; when the hatch drivers think about upgrading, it’s usually a jacked-up hatchback. Which is why we see so many of them these days.

Every manufacturer in the world must have one and VW has come up with the T-Roc, which is going to be positioned below the Tiguan. Built on the MQB platform, the T-Roc promises “compact outside, enormous inside”.

Looking at its compact dimensions and exterior design, the one SUV that pops in your mind is Audi Q2, while the interiors remind you of the new Polo. The SUV measures 4,234 mm long, 1,819 mm wide (ex. mirrors) and 1,573 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,603 mm.

As for the exterior features, there are LED headlamps. The LED DRLs and turn signals are formed by a single round LED element, integrated into the bumper. Rear-end has LED tail lamps in 3D design. The ‘Sport’ variant gets 17-inch ‘Kulmbach’ alloy wheels.

Interiors get an optional ‘Active Info Display’ (fully digital instruments), ambient lighting, 8.0-inch infotainment system which can be extended with App Connect (integrated MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), inductive charging, a 300-watt 8-channel sound system and many more options.

The T-Roc’s optional panoramic sunroof, which measures 870 mm wide and 1,364 mm long, is claimed to be the largest in the segment.

The 5-seater SUV is claimed to be having one of the largest luggage compartments in its class (445 litres when loaded up to the second seat row and the tops of the seat backrests).

As for the safety and driver assistance features, the T-Roc packs Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Lane Assist as standard. Other systems include Lane Assist lane keeping system, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), rearview camera, Traffic Jam Assist and so on.
