Looks like everyone who wanted to have a look at it have already done so, thanks to Jeep’s pre-launch marketing campaign which displayed the Compass at dealerships and shopping malls across the country. The only thing that was pending was announcing the price. Well, here it is then. The highly anticipated Made-in-India Jeep Compass starts at Rs 14.95 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The Jeep Compass comes in a total of 10 variants. There are two powertrains on offer, the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Multijet II diesel and 1.4-litre 4-cylinder Multiair petrol. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, and the latter is exclusive to the petrol Limited variant. The mid-Longitude doesn’t get a petrol option.
2.0-litre Multijet II turbo diesel
Displacement: 1,956 cc 4-cylinder
Max power: 173 hp at 3,750 rpm
Max torque: 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) between 1,750 – 2,500 rpm
Fuel efficiency as per ARAI: 17.1 km/l for 4×2, 16.3 km/l for 4×4
1.4-litre Multiair petrol
Displacement: 1,368 cc 4-cylinder
Max power: 163 hp at 5,500 rpm
Max torque: 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) between 2,500 – 4,000 rpm
Features
The top-spec Compass packs features such as Projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, keyless entry, push button start, leather seats, dual-zone Auto AC, 7-inch U-Connect touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and Selec-Terrain 4WD System. Colours
There are five colour choices – Vocal White, Hydro Blue, Minimal Grey, Exotica Red, and Brilliant Black.
Safety
As for the safety equipment, the Compass boasts over 50 of them. These include 6 airbags, four-channel ABS, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Panic Brake Assist, Hydraulic Boost Failure Compensation, Electronic Roll Mitigation, reversing camera, cornering fog lamps, and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB).
Dimensions
The Jeep Compass measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,636 mm. While the base Sport variant weighs 1,537 kg (3,388 lbs) kerb, the top-spec Limited 4×4 weighs 1,641 kg (3,618 lbs) kerb. Fuel tank capacity is 60 litres.
The Compass’ front suspension is McPherson strut, while the rear is Multi Link. There are disc brakes at all four corners.
FCA India MD Kevin Flynn said that the Compass has already garnered over 5,000 bookings. The Compass comes with a warranty of 3 yrs/100,000 km, whichever is earlier.
