Looks like BMW has almost done with the testing of the i8 Roadster. However, fans and buyers might have to wait for few more months to have a proper look. “In 2018 the BMW i8 Roadster will unlock the door to a whole new dimension in pioneering open-top driving pleasure – virtually silent and with zero local emissions”, said BMW in an official statement.
For those who can’t wait, here’s a picture of the 2012 i8 Concept Spyder, as the production model looks pretty much identical, which is a good thing. The i8 Roadster too is expected to have the 1.5-litre 3-cylinder biturbo petrol with an electric motor powered by a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering more or less the same output figures – a combined output of over 350 hp, and a pure electric range of up to 37 km. The coupe does 0 – 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, and top speed is limited to 250 km/h. Fuel efficiency of the coupe is claimed at 47.4 km/l.
A full reveal is expected in the coming months, while the sales will probably start in 2018.
