GM might have backed off from the Indian market, but its Chinese partner SAIC Motor will bring MG brand to India. Earlier this year, SAIC had registered MG Motor India Private Limited at Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the only thing that was left was an official word.
SAIC has hired former GM executives for its India operations, while Rajiv Chabba will lead the brand, P. Balendran will be the Executive Director.
While the target to commence operations is by 2019, SAIC still has to figure out the location of its manufacturing facility in India. The company is in talks with GM to acquire the now-defunct Halol Plant, but denied signing any formal agreement for the same.
MG is a British brand acquired by SAIC over 10 years ago. SAIC might display few MG vehicles at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi.
