Call me grandpa, but somehow, I’ve not yet “warmed-up” to EVs. I’ve driven slow and fast ones, but still, when I hear a burbly V8, I just don’t see why I should like EVs. Maybe that’s how people felt about steam engines when ICE took over. Companies know this, and every now and then, they try to spice things up, in an attempt to entice those who aren’t yet fully convinced. Skoda has revealed a spicier version of the Elroq named Elroq vRS.
As for visual upgrades, the Elroq vRS attempts to look like it packs at least a twin-turbo V6 under the hood. The front fascia of this supposedly sporty variant is called Tech-Deck Face. The faux grille is composed of vertical “eyelashes”, which comes as standard, as do the LED Matrix headlights. The bumper design looks rather busy, but maybe that’s just me. On the side, notice the black window surrounds, and also those 21-inch aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels are exclusive to the Elroq vRS. The rear-end doesn’t look all that different, except for dark badges and dark bumper details. Tow bar preparation is included as standard, while an electric release towbar is an optional extra.
As for the dynamics, the Elroq vRS is equipped with a sports suspension as standard. It is lowered by 15 mm at the front and 10 mm at the rear. The steering setup is also tuned for a sportier driving feel. The DCC adaptive chassis is available as an option. It features reconfigured driving modes designed for even better comfort. The Elroq vRS also comes with more powerful front brakes with two-piston calipers.
The dark interior certainly looks sporty, thanks to Suedia microfibre upholstery with lime green contrast stitching and a carbon-look décor. The three-spoke heated steering wheel is covered in perforated leather. It too comes with lime-green stitching along with a vRS badge. Heated front sports seats with integrated head restraints, electrically adjustable driver seat with massage, memory and lumbar support, 5-inch Digital Cockpit and the 13-inch infotainment display, and stainless-steel pedal covers, are some of the other key highlights.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story then, the Elroq vRS is an AWD EV. Meaning, it has an electric motor on each axle, offering a combined power output of 250 kW (340 metric hp). Torque is not disclosed, but my guess would be 500 to 550 Nm (369-406 lb-ft). The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 5.4 seconds, and the top speed is 179 km/h (111 mph). An 84 kWh (79 kWh net) battery pack is claimed to offer a WLTP range of over 547 km (340 mi).
