Some of you may have seen a strange-looking vehicle with Kia badges on the roads recently. Well, it is called the Kia Syros. The name is derived from the Syros island in Greece. For reasons beyond our understanding, Kia India decided that it needed to slot a vehicle between the Sonet and the Seltos. Ex-showroom prices start at INR 9 lakh (US$ 10,338 or €9,850).

The Syros is built on the Hyundai-Kia K1 platform that underpins vehicles such as the second-gen Santro (discontinued), third-gen Grand i10, Casper (not sold in India), and the ugly Exter.
When it comes to styling, it seems like the Syros takes its own path compared to its siblings above. It looks significantly different overall, and it seems like the Casper (sold in South Korea) has a strong styling influence on the Syros. But Syros looks a bit weird because the DRLs are also in the lower section of the front fascia.
Key exterior features include ice cube-like LED headlights with Starmap LED running lights, Starmap LED taillight signatures, flush-fit door handles, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
Compared to the Sonet, you get an extra 50 mm wheelbase here. Space seems to be adequate for four grown adults. The rear seat offers reclining and sliding functions. Other key highlights include a 30-inch panel that houses a digital cluster and an infotainment display, ventilated front seats, ventilated rear seat base, 4-way power driver seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, Smart Air Purifier with AQI display, 64-color ambient lighting, and electric parking brake with auto hold.
Passive safety includes 6 airbags. ADAS include Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Parking Collision Avoidance Assist-Reverse, Lane Keep Assist, Blind View Monitor, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and Driver Attention Warning.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the Syros offers petrol and diesel powertrain options. The petrol is a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged unit with 88.3 kW (120 metric hp) and 172 Nm (127 lb-ft) on tap. It can be paired with either a 6-MT or a 7-DCT. The diesel is a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit with 85 kW (115.5 metric hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) on tap. Transmission options in this case include a 6-MT and a 6-AT (torque converter).
