It’s been a while since the Mustang GT3-derived Mustang GTD debuted, but it is yet to go on sale. Although it is listed on the Ford USA website, the company has yet to set a price tag. However, there’s already a special edition of the Mustang GTD called the Mustang GTD Spirit of America. Price? Well, you may have to pester your local dealer for that one. But in the meantime, let’s take a look at what’s all the hoopla.

The Mustang GTD Spirit of America carries over the Mustang GTD’s racy bodywork and everything underneath it, including the 5.2L Supercharged V8. The oversized front spoiler/splitter, the fender louvers, the bonnet outlets, and the C-pillar-mounted carbon fibre rear wing, are all present here too. Which makes the Mustang GTD Spirit of America an appearance package.

The twin painted racing stripes mimic Mustang’s Tribar logo from 1964, while the rear wing underside is branded ‘MUSTANG’ with end plates in Race Red. For the mirror caps, buyers have a choice of Race Red or exposed carbon fibre, while Race Red calipers are standard.

As mentioned, the Mustang GTD Spirit of America carries over all the good bits of the Mustang GTD, including the forged carbon ceramic brakes (325 mm front and 345 mm rear), 6-piston Brembo front calipers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, optional Multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve) technology (lowers the car by 40 mm in Track mode), and a lightweight titanium Akrapovič exhaust system.

Also, Ford claims a near 50/50 weight balance for the Mustang GTD, thanks in-part to a carbon fibre driveshaft connected to an 8-speed rear transaxle. The “Predator” 5.2L Supercharged V8 offers 608 kW (827 metric hp/815 bhp) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft), good for an official top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). Last December, the GTD lapped the ‘ring in 6:57.685 minutes.

Inside, you get a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster, a 13.2-inch SYNC 4 central touchscreen, and a pair of fancy seats with leather trimming and Dinamica inserts. The paddle shifters, shift ring, and dashboard badge are available in 3D-printed titanium, as well.
