BMW has refreshed the 4 Series Gran Coupé and its all-electric sibling, the i4, with styling and tech upgrades. The updated models will go into production in July 2024. Your local dealership might be having some reliable information on the pricing, but in the meantime, let’s take a look at what’s all the hoopla.
The photos here showcase the M440i xDrive Gran Coupé, the i4 M50 xDrive, and the i4 eDrive40. So, what’s new? Well, to begin with, there is a new set of headlights; the outer shape is the same but it’s the internal detailing that’s new. There’s also an option to go for M4 CSL-type adaptive LED headlights. The i4 models get a different detailing on the Kidney grille. Of course, the updated models also receive new light-alloy wheel designs with 19- and 20-inch options. Optional taillights with Laserlight technology are also available. Tailpipes of the optional M Sport Package are now larger; 100 mm in diameter.
Key highlights for the inside include an updated software for the infotainment, which includes something called ‘QuickSelect’—which enables direct selection of functions without having to enter submenus. There are new illuminated air vents, a new flat-bottom steering wheel, optional glass applications for selected controls, new seat upholstery designs, and of course, new material choices. While the BMW Live Cockpit Plus is standard, the optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes a head-up display.
The ICE-powered variants include 420i Gran Coupé (2.0L petrol; 135 kW/183.5 metric hp and 300 Nm/221 lb-ft), 430i xDrive Gran Coupé (2.0L petrol; 180 kW/245 metric hp and 400 Nm/295 lb-ft), M440i xDrive Gran Coupé (3.0L petrol; 275 kW/374 metric hp and 500 Nm/369 lb-ft), 420d Gran Coupé (2.0L diesel; 140 kW/190 metric hp and 400 Nm/295 lb-ft), 420d xDrive Gran Coupé, and 430d xDrive Gran Coupé (3.0L diesel; 210 kW/285.5 metric hp and 650 Nm/479 lb-ft).
The 3.0L petrol and the two diesel powertrains are paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
As for all-electric options, you have i4 eDrive35 (RWD; 210 kW/285.5 metric hp and 400 Nm/295 lb-ft; claimed range up to 500 km/311 mi), i4 eDrive40 (RWD; 250 kW/340 metric hp and 430 Nm/317 lb-ft; claimed range up to 600 km/373 mi), i4 xDrive40 (AWD; 295 kW/401 metric hp and 600 Nm/442.5 lb-ft; claimed range up to 548 km/340.5 mi), and i4 M50 xDrive (AWD; 400 kW/544 metric hp and 795 Nm/586 lb-ft; claimed range up to 522 km/324 mi).
