As you know, the second-gen Mahindra Thar over-exceeded the company’s expectations and now you see at least 4 on every road. In other words, every Tom, Dick & Harry in the town seems to be having one. Which is probably why Mahindra has launched the Thar Earth Edition, for those seeking something a bit different. Prices start at INR 15.40 lakh, ex-showroom, Pan India.
Variants | Ex-showroom price (INR) |
LX Petrol MT 4WD HT | 15,40,000 |
LX Diesel MT 4WD HT | 16,15,000 |
LX Petrol AT 4WD HT | 16,99,800 |
LX Diesel AT 4WD HT | 17,60,001 |
That 1 Rupee is probably for donation, I’m not entirely sure. But as you can see, the special edition is available only with the 4WD configuration and a hard-top. No RWD, no convertible top, but you have manual and automatic transmission options. Since it is named ‘Earth Edition’, I guess it makes sense to offer only in 4WD configuration.
So, what are we looking at? Well, the exterior of the vehicle comes finished in a new and exclusive Desert Fury matte paint, complemented with sand dunes-inspired decals on the side. The grille stripes are also in Desert Fury. Notice the same Desert Fury insert on the 18-inch grey alloy wheels. All the badges are in matte black, and of course, you also get the Earth Edition badge on the B-pillar.
Inside, the desert-inspired theme continues with Desert Fury accents and beige leatherette seats with dune-embossed headrests. You can also notice a special plaque on the dashboard with a unique serial number.
There are no other changes. The petrol engine is the same 2.0L turbocharged unit with 112 kW (152 metric hp) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft), and the diesel engine also remains the same—which is a 2.2L turbocharged unit with 97 kW (132 metric hp) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft).
