After a brief teaser campaign, Volkswagen India launched the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition in the country, priced at INR 16,29,900 (ex-showroom). The Trail Edition is available in a single variant and is apparently a limited edition model. Bookings can be done online at VW’s official website.
So, what’s all this trailing hoopla? Well, it is exactly what you think it is. No no, don’t get too excited; it doesn’t come with a 4Motion AWD system like its bigger sibling, the Tiguan. It is still very much a front-wheel-drive crossover, but now even more pretentious with a black roof foil, black ‘Belmont’ alloy wheels, decals on the side, and of course, a ‘Trail’ badge on the tailgate. Note that those T-Rods on the roof are optional.
The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition is available in three color options: Reflex Silver, Candy White and Carbon Steel Grey.
Inside, you get Trail-themed leatherette seat upholstery and stainless steel pedals. Illuminated puddle lamps and a dashcam are also part of the package.
The rest of the features are carried over from the regular Tiguan, which includes the powertrain and other mechanical bits as well. The 1.5-litre TSI engine offers 110 kW (150 metric hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox; no automatic option here.
