BMW CE 02 debuts as an eParkourer

BMW-CE-02

You probably remember the BMW CE 04 electric scooter that went on sale last year. It didn’t boast crazy numbers but looked like something straight out of a Bruce Wayne movie, which generously compensated for the lack of crazy numbers. I mean, 42 metric hp is a respectable number for an electric scooter anyway. Using a similar formula, BMW aims to expand its electric two-wheeler lineup with the CE 02 motorcycle. It’s not a concept, but an actual thing you can purchase (in 2024) with prices starting at €8,500 in Germany, £7,450 in the UK and $7,599 in the U.S.

As mentioned, the CE 02 follows a similar styling formula as its aforementioned scooter sibling. Meaning, it looks very sci-fi. And, I think it’s important to mention that BMW doesn’t classify this vehicle as a motorcycle. The company said in its official statement that the CE 02 is neither an e-motorbike nor an e-scooter, but an “eParkourer”. I’m not entirely sure if you can use this thing for jumping and climbing over stuff, but I guess the term parkour is used in a metaphorical way. It is about being nimble and getting around town in the most efficient way possible.

The different colors that you see on the seat are part of the optional £880 Highline package. But anyway, other key highlights of the CE 02 include a 3.5-inch TFT display; single-arm rear-wheel swinging arm; 750 mm seat height; a USB-C socket; BMW Motorrad ABS (front wheel only), and two riding modes (Flow and Surf). The aforementioned Highline package gets you an extra mode called Flash for an even more sportier appeal.

The electric motor of the CE 02 has a max power output of 11 kW (15 metric hp), but for continuous safe operation, it is rated at 6 kW (8 metric hp). Max torque is 55 Nm (40.5 lb-ft) at 1,000 rpm. 2 x 1.96 kWh (usable energy content) battery packs are claimed to offer a WMTC range of over 95 km (59+ mi). For those interested to know, the so-called eParkourer is claimed to sprint from 0-50 km/h (31 mph) in 3.0 seconds. As standard, the vehicle comes with a 900-watt charger, but the Highline package gets you a 1,500-watt quick charger. Last but not least, the CE 02 has an unladen weight of 132 kg (291 lbs).
