Apparently, the time has arrived for Mercedes-Maybach to plug-in as well. The Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e is the brand’s first-ever plug-in hybrid model—which will be initially available in China, followed by Thailand, Europe and other markets. Pricing information is yet to be disclosed, but the 4.0L V8 biturbo-powered Maybach S 580 4Matic starts at €175,418 while the 6.0L V12 biturbo-powered S 680 4Matic starts at €230,557 (both in Germany), which should give you some idea on the Maybach S 580 e’s pricing.
What we are looking at is essentially a Maybach version of the regular S 580 e plug-in hybrid model. Which means, the powertrain is a combo of a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine and an electric motor (permanently excited synchronous motor) nestled between the ICE and the 9-speed automatic gearbox. The ICE pumps out 270 kW (367 metric hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, while the e-motor offers an additional 110 kW (150 metric hp) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque. The combined figures, however, are 375 kW (510 metric hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 5.1 seconds. Do note that there’s no 4Matic here (yet).
The battery pack capacity is also most likely the same 29 kWh, estimated to offer a pure electric range of up to 100 km (62 mi) as per WLTP. A 11 kW AC charger comes standard while there’s an option to go for a 60 kW DC fast-charger.
